June 8 shifting update

The long process that started last summer is mostly done!  Today, the rest of the K's have been moved to the third floor in their proper sequence.  This completes the shift of the collection identified in the planning documents from last year.  In summary:

Main Stacks starts on 1st floor and includes A - E740. 
Main Stacks continue on 3rd floor from E 740 - Z.  (There is a small set of R - RA 399 in the lower level awaiting space on third) 
121 boxes of books sent to Better World Books with more on the way I'm sure
The Aux and Aux Ref collections in the lower level both go in the same direction

Future plans include:

"stretching" out the legal and gov docs collection  (these were rather hastily moved last summer)
Tidying up the juvenile collections
Tidying up legal reference

June 6 updates

Good news. Starting today, the K books will move up to the third floor where they belong.  We backshifted some of the M's and L's and created sufficient space for the K's.  This will probably take about a week to complete.  Major kudos to Tiffany and Trevor for the bulk of the shifting to create the space. 

May 30 update

The AUX collection has changed directions!  Instead of going from the windows to the wall it now starts directly behind the wall of display cases heading toward the windows.  This was a necessary move of the collection.  It should be complete in a few days.  Once that is done the plan is to move the K books up to the third floor! 

May 22 shifting update

The shift of the H's to third floor left plenty of room before the computer, so the J's are moving "across the way" to the other side of the computers.  This shift will be done early Wednesday morning.  A few of the later "J's" will be on the other side of the computers.

The auxiliary collection will be the next target.  Last year a number of titles were identified for the collection, but were shelved in an area where a bulk of the collection had already been shelved.  This will require some juggling of the existing collection and might entail it changing direction.  I will keep you posted and even try to add some pictures if needed!

May 21 shifting update

1.  All the H books are now on the third floor. 
2.  R's have been shifted into their proper space in the collection with the exception of R - RA 399.  These books are temporarily located in the Lower Level stack unit 15 (closest to the windows near the JCM wall sign)
3.  Yuri has been given the call numbers to update the catalog.
