ILL Admin Copier Rm# 140

Just an FYI, the Admin copier needs a P/M kit, which I have ordered. However, I am not sure if I will receive it before Flite closes next week. You can still make copies.

IKON

The black and white printer next to the color printer on the 1st floor has had 3 paper jams within an hour.

Room 108

If you have a group of 6 or more looking for study or meeting space, room 108 will be designated as "overflow" seminar room space. Please complete a room on request form and add the information to the desk sheet and the group may use the room for 4 hours. This does not need to be limited to RSO's as it could be the Golf Team study group or a group working on a project. Please note that library instruction will take priority in the room and the room may not be booked in advance. It's first come first served for the room.

If you have questions on this, check with either Kristy, Dorothy or Lyle.

IKON

Neither of the printers is working on the 1st floor. The night manager left a note saying both printers turned out all of the paper that was in them as blank sheets last night. He also left a note saying that a student's ID was stuck in the card reader in the 24 hour room.

After calling John, post the situation here to the blog so we'll have a record for all to view. Remember the blog is searchable. For any IKON problems, put IKON is the subject field so they will be easy to search and read at one time.

Printing Sheet

There is a two sided small handout available at the service desks which explains how to print and add money to the ID cards. Let me know if you need more. Feel free to hand these out as needed.

New Staff Member

Please join me in welcoming Dorothy Hart to the Unit. She will be starting with us on Monday, August 11. Her duties will include handling the Media Distribution tapes, processing of Mel Cat Requests, and be the point person for our new Document Delivery service called "Flite on the Go". This service is aimed at faculty and staff whereby we will photocopy scan and deliver electronic copies of articles owned by FLITE to their desktop. She will also continue with her duties relating to room reservations.

Circ Workstations

I have added bookmarks (favorites) on all three circulation desk workstations to both the Room Booking forms and to the blog (this one). These have been added to both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Should make it easier to link to these sources.

Self Check out station moved

The self-check out station has been moved to the third floor (where the books are!). It's in the area right off the entrance from the main elevator corridor.

ILLiad check out

Please just use the checkout function when checking out an ILL to a patron using ILLiad. Upon return of the item, just place on the returned shelf and we'll take care of the check in in the back.

Cable TV

Apparently some equipment in FLITE has failed, so the cable system will be out. About 2 - 3 weeks is what I've heard.

DVD and Shelving updates

The DVD's have been moved along the wall outside of the Instructional Studios after the VHS tapes. The CD's from 3rd floor back in the corner will be moved to the area on 3rd where the VHS tapes were.

Mel Cat Change

This note from Rick:
LDAP authentication has been enabled for MelCat requests. The labels for the username and password fields cannot be changed. We will have to live with "Your Campus ID#:" and "Your Password:" as field labels. I have heard that the next version of Innreach will allow the labels to be changed for each individual library on MelCat but I have no idea when that will be installed.

Librarian's Meeting update

We met today and discussed the possibility of adding a document delivery service for items we own for our faculty and staff. Apparently this issue arose from discussions at the focus groups held last year. After a spirited discussion, we agreed to pilot a slimmed down version of just handling article requests at this time. I will handle the initial requests with the assistance of our students for the time being. As this grows (or IF this grows) we may look at some different staffing models which might include using Dorothy for this service. Additionally, we might add book delivery to the model if we come up with some good procedures.

Mel Cat Down

The MeLCat server will be down on Wednesday, January 30. The system will likely be unavailable ALL DAY. The downtime is to allow us to move to the newest release of the MeLCat software and then to thoroughly test things before allowing users back onto the system. Although we really don't like taking the server down during the day, we need to do this at a time when we have access to staff from several different organizations (MLC, DIT, and Innovative Interfaces).

DVD's

We now have DVD's in the office supply machine for our new camera. You can mention this to folks who check out our camera.
