Friday July 29 shifting update

well we can move no more books for a bit. Every space we can move to is complete. We moved two things today:

1) The Library science Z's were moved to stack 73--a previously unused stack unit near the Juvenile collection.

2) The stacks along the study rooms closest to the elevator on third floor now have the E's that continue the collection from 1st floor. These are the "short" stacks along the study room walls.

What's on the agenda? We will now shift the third floor to see how much room there is since we have
a) moved the Z's and
b) Moved all the long runs out

Once that is done we should be able to move more E's and then F's to the third floor. My goal is to complete the tall ranges on third floor from oversize to the computers. It's lofty, but might be done.

Please let me know if you have questions on all this.

Thursday July 28 shifting updates

Whew! The 1st floor is now complete with books through E 735. That's all books from A - E 735 are now shelved on the first floor. The break in the E's is at the end of the 19th century. The E's that will move to third floor will start with 20th Century history!

We have moved a fair number of the Long Runs to the Lower Level in the "old" periodical shelves. They will not stay here, but consider this a staging area so we can free up space on the third floor.

Friday July 22 updates

Spent most of the day moving the "aux" collection to the Lower Level. This is going quite slow as we are integrating items from two locations. We are into the JK area.

Focus next week will be on finishing the move from the lower level to 1st floor. Additionally moving some of the long runs from 3rd. Once that is done we will shift on 3rd and see what we have for space. that will determine my next move!

Thursday July 21 updates

Sorry about no post yesterday. Was doing Dean search stuff after 5.

The lower level books keep moving up. We are into the DA section now.

The "Aux" collection is slowly growing. We are into the HF section now (in the middle of the catalogs (Sears, Penny's etc.)

Am moving some of the "aux" collection from the end (Z's) to free up more room on third.

Kudos to Carrie and the LSO staff who are working very hard at pulling out the items from reference to the stacks and labeling the Aux collection.

Monday July 18 updates

1. The “Aux” collection has started to move downstairs. The first 11 titles are in their new home. these are starting about where the GT’s were along the wall and move towards the main aisle.

2. Books from the Lower Level are complete through the C’s. We have just moved a few titles in the D’s.

3. Shifting on third floor continues to make room for the collection up there.

4. Working on stack labels in the lower level. 21 22 and 23 are complete. Will work on more as soon as possible.

Will be off tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon. Shifters have their assignments.

Focus this week is the shifting on third floor. Need to free up space for the collection that is moving up there.

wed. July 6 updates

My first major gaffe today. I started a team on shifting the third floor and showed them the wrong way. So stack 21 and 22 are a bit out of order. I'll fix when i get back.

All legal (except a few titles) are now in the lower level. The catalog is not yet updated to reflect this, but should be within a month or so. Titles remaining on 1st include Fed Supp, Fed Reporter, West's digest, Northwestern Reporter and all Michigan Legal titles.

Lower Level is being compacted to create room for Long Runs. Heather and Tiffany have shifted from the end of the collection into the HF's.

Periodicals continue to make progress. I have pulled some pre-1987 titles and stored them in room 140K We hope to get the remaining titles on the shelves no later than next Tuesday.

2. The reference collection has been shifted onto the short stacks adjacent to reference through the Yearbooks. (LD 1771)
3. We are shifting the main collection on both the lower level and 3rd floor to make room for long runs and the main collection
4. Books from the Lower Level through B 100 are now on the first floor. As soon as we have the books from reference ready to shelve you will see more.

If you have any questions, let me know!
