Online Catalog

The Online catalog has a new look. We have added a feature called "Web Pac Pro" It makes keyword searches appear in relevance order, not reverse chronological. Also the font is a bit different.

Hours open

I have asked Helen to update the hours open table to reflect when we actually close. This should make it a bit easier to determine when an item is due. Most items have a grace period, so this should not cause fines to accrue.

Music Download Software

Ferris is offering a free music-sharing software called Ruckus to help students avoid legal problems that develop when music is downloaded illegally. In order to use it, a student sets up a user name and password, then they have to download software to hear and store the music. I had a student ask why she couldn't listen to her music in the info commons. Scott Claerhout verified this morning that the academic support teams on campus have all agreed they will not be downloading the Ruckus player onto public computers. It is meant to be used on a student's personal computer only. Ruckus maintains user logins, which causes problems with security in public places.

IPODS and exit gate

The gate should not go off if a patron is wearing their IPOD. If the cord is coiled, it may go off. So, if they are wearing one, still check their stuff.

Also if they claim it's their laptop, check the laptop bag. There are lots of pockets in those bags.

Marketing assignment

The Simmons assignment will be starting soon. They should know what volume they need. They also need to look at a BPI (Business Purchasing Index) They can find that in any Sept. issue of Sales and Marketing Management. Let me know if you have any questions.

Call Numbers on Bound Periodicals

In an effort to save a few $$, we will stop printing the call numbers on bound periodicals. This may take a while as we have a batch going out today or tomorrow, but eventually, they will go away!

Laptop Logins

There are two laptop logins:
1) The fltlaptop is to login to the laptop itself. It's related to the passwords in the info commons
2) Anytime a student needs to access a non-Ferris internet site, they need to login to Clean Access with their MYFSU ID and Password. This should only happen once, unless they close the browser or wait a long time.

Web CT and PowerPoint

It is not possible to print a Power Point from Web CT. Patrons need to download the Power Point and then send to printer via the print function in Power Point. Printing from WEBCT will cause problems.

If anyone gets the blue sheet assignment page for Brayton's class, please make a copy and give it to Periodicals and Reference. Thank you!
